Who I am

This website is operated by William, trading as Handyman William, a sole trader providing handyman services across Suffolk. The website domain is handymanwilliam.co.uk and you can contact me at info@handymanwilliam.co.uk. For the purposes of UK GDPR I am the data controller for any personal information you submit through this site.

What information I collect, and why

The only personal information I actively collect is the information you choose to submit through the contact form on this website. That includes your name, email address, optional phone number, the town in Suffolk where the job is, the service you’re enquiring about, and the description of the job you provide in the message field. I collect this information for one reason only — so that I can reply to your enquiry and, if you go on to book the job, so that I can get to your house and complete the work.

I also keep server logs containing the IP address of visitors to the site, the time of access, the page viewed and basic browser information. These are kept by my hosting provider for security and diagnostic purposes only, and are not used to identify or track individuals.

What I do not do

I don’t use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics service. I don’t place advertising cookies. I don’t use Facebook Pixel, LinkedIn Insight, TikTok Pixel or any other tracking script from a social platform. I don’t buy or sell mailing lists. I don’t share your enquiry with anyone else. I don’t use your data to train any AI model. I don’t pass your details to lead-generation firms or directories. I don’t profile you or build any kind of customer dossier. The only person who reads your enquiry is me.

Cookies

This site does not use any non-essential cookies. The site does not require a cookie consent banner because it does not place tracking, advertising or analytics cookies. The only cookies that may be set are strictly necessary technical cookies (for example, by the embedded OpenStreetMap iframe used on town pages). You can disable these in your browser without affecting your ability to use the site.

How long I keep your information

If you send me an enquiry but do not go on to book a job, I delete the email and any associated information within ninety days of our last correspondence. If you do go on to book a job, I keep the contact details and a brief job record (so I can come back if there’s a guarantee issue or you book again) for up to seven years. Seven years is the standard retention period for HMRC self-assessment records, which I am required to keep by law.

Where your information is stored

Form submissions are sent to me by email and stored on the email service used by my domain (currently provided through 20i.com, a UK-based hosting provider). Site backups are stored within the European Economic Area. No personal information is transferred outside the UK or EEA.

Lawful basis for processing

The lawful basis for processing the information you submit is “legitimate interests” (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) — specifically, my legitimate interest in being able to respond to enquiries about handyman services and to deliver the services agreed. Where the information is part of a job invoice or contract, the lawful basis is “contract” (Article 6(1)(b)).

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have a number of rights with respect to your personal information. You can ask me to confirm what information I hold about you, ask me to correct any inaccurate information, ask me to delete your information (subject to any legal retention obligations), ask me to restrict the processing of your information, and ask for a copy of your information in a portable electronic format. To exercise any of these rights, send an email to info@handymanwilliam.co.uk and I’ll respond within 30 days.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your personal information, please raise it with me first by email and I’ll do my best to put it right. If you remain unhappy, you have the right to complain to the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (the ICO). Their website is ico.org.uk and their helpline is 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this notice

If I make material changes to this notice I’ll update the “last updated” date at the top of the page. The current version is always the one published on this page. There is no version history because the practical meaning of this policy — that I will use your information only to reply to your enquiry and complete any work you book — has not changed since the site was launched and is not expected to.
