Suffolk Areas I Cover

Suffolk is a big working area for a one-man business, and I take it seriously. The county stretches from Lowestoft on the Norfolk border — the easternmost point in Britain — down through the working towns of Beccles, Halesworth and Saxmundham, on through Ipswich and Felixstowe in the south-east, west across to the cathedral town of Bury St Edmunds, and down to the medieval cloth towns of Sudbury, Lavenham, Hadleigh and Clare on the Essex border. To the far west sit Newmarket, Mildenhall and Brandon, on the edge of the Breckland. Along the Heritage Coast you have Aldeburgh, Southwold, Walberswick and the chain of small fishing villages between them.

Each of those towns has a slightly different stock of housing, and that means slightly different work for me. The Heritage Coast properties take a battering from salt and prevailing winds, so a lot of my work there is timber and weatherproofing. The medieval cloth towns are full of listed timber-framed and Tudor buildings that ask for sympathetic, traditional repair. Ipswich and the larger towns have plenty of Victorian terraces, 1930s semis, post-war estates and modern flats — the bread-and-butter mix of family homes that need bathrooms, kitchens, fencing and the steady stream of small fixes that go with raising a family. Newmarket has its own quiet world of trainers’ cottages, stable yards and stud-farm properties that I work in regularly.

I cover all of it, and for the same fair, written-up-front pricing wherever you are. There’s no extra mileage charge for the further-flung jobs — the price I quote is the price you pay, whether you’re a stone’s throw from my van or at the other end of the county.
